about
THIS TRIP IS A SHORT-TERM MISSION TRIP BASED ON SERVING THE LOCAL CHURCH IN MEXICO, WHILE CREATING CROSS-CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING THROUGH DIRECT EXPOSURE TO THE MEXICAN CULTURE. WE ARE NOT JUST BUILDING A HOUSE IN A DEVELOPING NATION. WE ALSO ARE GOING TO UNDERSTAND THE CONDITIONS OF POVERTY THROUGH IMMERSION.
The Youth Farm Bible Camp has been going to Mexico since 2006. It has been an amazing experience connecting with the people of Tijuana and building hope into both their lives and ours. Cross cultural experiences are a very valuable learning time for all ages. The trip is ten days long with the travel being a significant part of the experience. We take three days to travel from Rosthern, SK to Tijuana, Mexico and build unity and connection into our team. Going on this journey together is an enriching experience. We learn from one another and eat in restaurants that are different from the ones we frequent in Canada! Once we get to San Diego, we connect with Amor Ministries, the organization that we have been working with for each trip taken, and every house built. They help us have a worthwhile experience (for both participants and the Mexicans we seek to connect to).
On Easter Sunday we spend our first full day in Mexico. We connect with Francisco and Isela Ortiz who have been our translators (of language and culture) since 2008 (when we built their house). They have also come to Canada to work in the Corn Maze and get to know us more. They are a very important part of a successful Impact trip. We spend the morning in their church and are blessed by a congregation to serve in the community.
Monday is the first day on the job, and its lots of hard work. A foundation is laid, and walls are built. A good start on this day helps for a smooth building experience. We spend time working and connecting with the family that we are building a home for. We have three days on the building site (a fourth if needed) and so many connections and opportunities come during that time. On Thursday and Friday, we take time to process what we learn and have some fun at a San Diego beach. Then it's time to make the quick trip back to Rosthern.
The Mexico Impact Trip has been a significant ministry of the Youth Farm Bible Camp with ongoing connections and blessings!
